Richard Anderson is a self-taught abstract artist who was born in Landstuhl, West Germany. While in his early teens, he lived in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. It was here he attempted learning Arabic writing. The Arabic did not go so well, but, over time his attempts morphed into the unique style of abstract characters and symbols which currently grace his work.
Entering adulthood Richard engaged his creative side by playing in Chicago area alternative rock bands, and pursuing creative writing classes during college. Those artistic outlets existed side-by-side with an ever present love of visual art.
During the mid-2000’s, Richard and his wife stepped into the world of art collection. This further fueled his visual arts appreciation and education. The ever increasing participation in art collection fed a hunger for something more than gathering the work of others. Finally, a very impactful visit to New York City, during the fall of 2015, pushed him from collector to creator. Richard arrived at the realization his artistic vision was unique, and he had to share it. Upon returning from New York, the long-building desire to create spilled out onto 25 canvases over the following year. He also participated in his first gallery shows.
Currently, Richard is exploring new ways to express himself with various mediums and canvases. He focuses on filling surfaces with bright shades and metallic or textured characters. Characters which at times, may form recognizable letters, which sneak onto the canvas to arrange themselves as hidden messages.
When he is not painting, Richard enjoys movies, traveling the world with his incredible wife, and collecting the art of others.
